Brown-Waite Tries to Take Credit for a Bill She Didn't Vote For

Piccillo: “This is a perfect example of another Washington politician trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Land O' Lakes, FLOn October 29, 2009, Ginny Brown-Waite didn’t show up to vote for the Small Business Financing and Investment Act of 2009, but tried to take credit for voting yes by issuing a press release just after the vote.  Under the official congressional seal Brown-Waite said, “My amendments ensure that this program will be operational through 2011 and that it will be administered responsibly.  This bill provides small business employers with the resources they need to help the American people get back to work—when the American people are working, the American economy is working.”

Her opponent in next year’s congressional race, Jim Piccillo, is a small business consultant who would have voted in favor of this bill.

“Ginny Brown-Waite’s hypocrisy hit a new low when she tried to take credit for a bill that she didn’t even show up to vote for.  This is a perfect example of another Washington politician trying to pull the wool over our eyes.  I for one won’t stand by and let her talk out of both sides of her mouth.   Small business is the economic engine of this district and we desperately need a Member of Congress who will fight for Main Street business instead of Wall Street,” said Piccillo.

With passage of the bill, it will create new finance opportunities for small manufacturers and renewable energy small businesses, guarantees loans for small business working in the health information technology field, creates financing opportunities for small businesses in the early stages of their business life cycle---helps start ups and makes permanent the Increased Veteran Participation Program.
